in-built user friendly SEF, Yes, 1.5 version of Joomla is providing easy to read and search engine friendly urls for free(free is not right word here. However, those users will know its value who use 3rd party sef engines).
Basically the users believe that Joomla 1.5 will be more secured than other versions. However, we have to consider 3rd party components and modules too. They also need to be secure.
Even though the GPL component developers started migrating some of key components like docman, still people need more components for 1.5. Else, Once again, users may need to use the legacy mod in Joomla 1.5 to use the plugins. But it is also to be noted that not all components and plugins will run on legacy mode.
Tell the World you build a site,Ok, here is what i wanted from Joomla 1.5
I generally use wordpress and Joomla mostly. Wordpress ,is simply because , only one reason is that Google like it MOST ( i believe it). Whenever i publish one same news in joomla and wordpress , i see wordpress is crawled quickly than Joomla.
So, Wordpress tells the world that there is a news in your site. But Joomla does not have ping feature and does not tell the world on your news.
So, Dear Joomla Developers, please do something on the ping, :)

Well, code is poetry. Joomla is a poetry too.
In Joomla , we know that we place modules in "positions". Like user3, top, newsflash, header, banner and so on. These positions are hardcoded in templates. When we place the modules in admin for their positions we see them in the front end in their respective positions.
Most of the time, the new users or template developers think that every position has its exact meaning and functionality. But that is not true. A "left" position can be visually set to right side and still call it left position. A "banner" position may contain "latest news" too. A single "banner" position can contain more than one "banner" by assigning 2 "custom html" modules or by copying banner modules.
Suppose if a template is hardcoded with "left" module position on the left side it does not mean that it can contain only "main menu" "other menu" "login form" and syndicate. You can also add more modules to the "left" position by assigning to the position.
Hence, a position is a position is simply a position. Do poetry have one meaning ?
I am not good at my English. thanks for reading :)

joomla uses user3 for top menu display. That is user3 module position and topmenu from menu manager.
It is always a nice display when the menu item is active to its related content. For example, if you are in "contact us" page, the "contact us" menu should be active and be in different style. So, the menu will look good.
For this first you need to set the "Full active highlighting" in the module manager for the "top" position.
Secondly, you should add the following css to the template_css.css file or anyother file if you are using separate css files,
ul#mainlevel-nav li a#active_menu-nav
{
/* any style */
}

Joomla is so flexible and top notch product which supports all type of web technologies into it. Yes i really mean it. Joomla template developers use technologies from javascript drop downs to mootools .
Nowadays virtually any type of menu is possible for Joomla. Well, honestly, while we look into drop downs, we have to take care of search engine optimized menus also.
ok , if you need quicker solution, then go for "suckerfish dropdown menu".
And here we tell you why you should go for suckfish and how does it help on optimizing for search engines.
When you use old type of javascript based menus, the front end behaviour of menus are generated wholly by javascript. Technically , they use "document.write" for printing menus. As search engine bots do not read such statements, they can not see your items too. It means suppose if your site contains a menu item name "Pet cleaning service" by javascript menu, search engine will never see that link and will not crawl too. So, what you see in search engine index is nothing but homepage only.
Suppose if you use suckerfish menu, search engines will love to crawl your pages. It is because simply sf (suckerfish) uses 90% css and 10% of js only. Moreover, the front end menu generation is completely done through UL and LI tags with href tags. They are clearly visible to search engine bots.
We support any menu system that generate front end menu items in UL and LI. Most of the time SF menu comes useful for this type of operations.
To download templates with SF menu, you can Google it ( :D ) else, you need to join template club like themesclub or joomlart . They both provide nice collection of menu items and good templates too.

mosmedialite 451 is the most used joomla component as well as having RFI security problem. We suggest better avoid using this component unless you get patched one or upgraded one.
Official joomla forum has released such components list here,you can find http://forum.joomla.org/index.php?topic=215577.msg1076518
